Breaking Common Myths About Your Processes

Today, we’re busting a few common myths about your processes so you can separate the facts from the fiction and whip your business into shape.

If these myths sound familiar, it’s because business owners also use them as excuses to avoid adding processes to their business- which could have severe consequences down the line.

For example, Failing to add processes to your business could:

Give you less time to spend with friends and family

It’s hard to take personal time when you’re bogged down with busy work that a process could easily automate for you.

Waste your money

If you don’t have processes, you could lose money by going over budget on tasks, missing payments, and mismanaging your finances.

That’s why it’s crucial to add processes to your business. However, there are still some strongly-held myths that may prevent you from streamlining your business.

Let’s debunk those once and for all.

Myth 1: I Don’t Need Processes In My Business.

Yes. Yes, You do.

Every business needs processes, no matter what they provide. They save you time, money, and stress- and they can help your business become a well-oiled machine. Why wouldn’t you want that?

It may sound trendy or unconventional to say that you don’t have processes, but think of it this way: other, more successful businesses have processes, so why should yours be different?

If it’s because you don’t know where to begin, I have several articles that give you step-by-step instructions on creating and implementing processes. Start with 6 Processes Your Business Needs, The Processes That Will Help Scale Your Online Business, or Ways to Tell if Your Business Needs More Processes. Then, go from there.

Myth 2: Processes Take Too Much Time

Everything takes time in the beginning. The question is: Would you rather spend 30 minutes to set up a process that automates part of your business and never do it again, or spend 5-10 minutes every day doing the same thing?

I know what my answer would be.

If you need an example, here’s a guide on creating a stellar onboarding process that will have your leads becoming clients. Or, you can check out my ready-made templates and quickly create processes that save you time, money, and sanity.

Myth 3: Processes Only Work for Service-Based Industries

I agree that processes for a service-based business are easier to create, but that doesn’t mean other types need to avoid them.

For example, if you’re an E-commerce business, you can create a process for taking orders, preparing shipments, accepting payments, launching new products, and collecting reviews.

You might have to document it differently- like a written SOP vs a video- but you can create processes for non-service-based businesses.

Final Thoughts

Processes are a vital part of any business, no matter their industry, and no myth or excuse will change that. They save you time and money, ease the burden on your team, and give your clients a better experience.
